From “Are You Even Legal?” to “How Do I Enroll?”
When I first started talking about PivotED, the reactions were… um, wildly varied.
Some people were intrigued. Some were confused. Some were already drafting a text to their cousin who knows a school board attorney.
“Wait… you’re starting a school? Like, a real one?”
“Do you have, like… permission?”
“Is this homeschooling? A pod? Some kind of underground learning lair?”
(Just to clarify: No weird chants, no matching outfits.)
It’s been a wild ride…mostly uphill, sometimes on a scooter, occasionally on fire.
Simply stated, a microschool is a small, personalized school where kids (almost always) enjoy learning. At PivotED we mix real academics with various learning approaches and skip the one size fits all approach.
So… Are You Legal? Yep. We operate within the law. In Texas, private microschools and homeschool-based learning communities are totally valid educational options. We maintain attendance records, we follow state guidelines and yes, we will even have fire drills. (We assume the kids will love them…because who doesn’t love a surprise trip to the grass?)
From Eyebrow Raises to Real Momentum. This is our very first year but the interest is already very real. Families are reaching out. Curious parents are asking all the right questions. And more than a few have said, “We’ve been looking for something like this.”
It’s exciting. It’s encouraging. And it’s a reminder that while this is new, it’s not just different, it’s purposeful.
The Point? Different doesn’t mean disorganized. Small doesn’t mean subpar. Messy doesn’t mean meaningless. PivotED was built on the belief that learning can be joyful, rigorous, and human all at once. And we’re just getting started.
