What even is a microschool?

I’ve spent many years in education. Like most teachers, I’ve seen what works… and what seriously doesn't. If we’re not hitting the mark with your kids, chances are we’re missing the mark with mine too. I wanted something different for my kiddos. But I love teaching. I really do. So, the idea of staying home full-time with my boys? Let’s just say I’d rather teach a room full of hyped-up second graders after a birthday party than stay home and teach only my own hooligans ery day. And let’s be honest: If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy. Then one day I stumbled across this thing called a micro school and thought, “Okay, this is genius.” It was like someone had peeked into my brain and said, “Here, try this—but with less stress and more joy.”

So, what is a micro school? Glad you asked!

A micro school is basically the cozy, small-batch, artisanal version of school. Fewer students, smaller class sizes, and a way better teacher-student ratio—think less cattle drive, more VIP lounge. Some are run by one teacher, others have a whole dream team. And the best part? We focus on personalized learning: mixed-age groups, hands-on projects, flexible pacing, and lots of chances to actually enjoy learning instead of just surviving it.

These schools are often started by teachers (🙋‍♀️), parents, or community groups who said, “Hey, what if school didn’t feel like an 8-hour Zoom call with a pop quiz at the end?”

So here I am, launching PivotED, with the hope of creating something joyful, effective, and just the right amount of weird (in a good way). Something where kids are seen, challenged, supported, and dare I say it—excited to learn.

Thanks for being here.
Thanks for thinking differently.
And hey—keep being AWESOME.
